Breast explantation
(removal of implants)
-
Indicated for women who no longer wish to have breast implants or require a replacement.
-
Technique: "en bloc" explantation or explantation with complete capsulectomy.
-
With the technique used, the implants are extracted inside the capsules that surround them, completely eliminating all tissue associated with the implants, and avoiding contamination in the event of rupture, spillage of silicone or presence of liquid inside the capsules. See figure 2.
-
To rebuild the breast after removing the implants, it is common to require a mastopexy technique (breast lift) to achieve an aesthetic appearance. See figure 1.
-
Balanced general anesthesia.
-
Generally ambulatory surgery.
-
7 days to resume daily activities. Light exercise can be resumed at 4 weeks after surgery, and intense exercise at 8 weeks.
-
Use of a special orthopedic bra for 8 weeks.
